Introdution

Problem Statement

This case study concerns child protection in early education.
As parents, there is always the issue of child safety overhanging us as we go about our daily lives.
Leaving a child, who cannot speak nor protect themselves, in the hands of a stranger is a major concern.

Hypothesis

By creating an application that provides parents with information and photos about their children's day-to-day life at daycare, it will make parents - to continue with their other responsibilities.

Discovery

Long Term Goal

An app that helps parents feel more secure about leaving their babies / toddlers with other people.

Summary

I sent a survey form to parents that live in different countries, and I got 47 responses.
Surveys revealed that parents' biggest fear is about their children's safety.
They fear that their child might be abused or mistreated.
When asked about the criteria for choosing a daycare center, after infrastructure and location, security was the third most mentioned. Also, when parents who already use the app to receive feedback were asked what they don't like about the
application they use, the most common answers were: lack of information, unclear information and some of them also mentioned the layout. They expected more information about their child and not a group information, easy to use and reliable app.

Define

Competitive Analysis

I wanted to explore how kindergarten apps work so far, compare and find out how Little Bird could bring more information and peace of mind to parents.
I used 5 Apps to compare, 3 of them used by survey respondents from different countries.

User Persona

Based on the mothers who answered my survey, which was 97% of the parents, I created 2 personas that represents the target user of Little Bird. This helped me empathize with the end user and focus on their needs and preferences to create this app.

What I am designing

An app that brings peace of mind to the parents by providing them with relevant feedback such as pictures and information pertaining to their child’s daily activities.

Task Flow Analysis

I created the Task Flow based on the main needs of parents, which is information about what happens in their babies' day-to-day life, starting with the daily report on the home page and then going to the galery/ photo page, which is another way for parents to know what activities their babies/toddlers are doing and if they are happy.

Summary

After testing with 4 parents, I found 2 patterns. The first was the cards on the homepage. When I tested it with the first 2 parents they couldn't understand that the cards were clickable, because the cards and the background were white, and even the cards with a shadow were not enough. In this case, I changed the background to light yellow and when I tested it with the other 2 parents I could prove that changing the background was enough.
The other pattern found was the icons on the individual photos page, the first icon was for reporting but it wasn't very clear and as I had added space for comments I decided to change that icon to a sharing icon which parents expected to have when I tested.

Conclusion

The goal was to create an application that would help parents feel more secure about leaving their babies/children with other people, creating an application that would provide parents with information about their children's day-to-day life at the daycare center.
The application provides all the information about their day-to-day life, what they ate, how much they ate, how much they slept, information about changing diapers, their health, and activities they did, as well as photos and a chat page for parents and educators can communicate easily.
In addition, the application proved to be easy to use and with a cute and delicate design, because we are talking about babies and toddlers.
